I am Eric Glover, the creator of this site and the leader of the Doubtless Living Bible study group at ClearView Baptist Church in Franklin, Tennessee. I am married to Tina Glover and we have two grown children and one wonderful grandson. I have taught Bible study classes to adults of all ages for more than 25 years and teaching God’s Word is one of my greatest passions in life. I am an ordained Southern Baptist minister and I attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. I have served churches in many capacities over the years, but I am called by God to teach His Word and that is what I love doing most of all. Professionally, I serve as the Vice President of Retail Operations for LifeWay Christian Stores, one of the largest Christian retailers in the world with 160 stores across America. I have a Masters of Business Administration degree from the University of Connecticut and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree from Missouri Southern State University. I am also a Certified Public Accountant, although I have not practiced public accounting for many years.

Pandemic Productivity

So, how’s everyone doing? Are you thoroughly enjoying the “extended vacation” that you’ve longed for all these years? Like the adage goes, “be careful what you wish for…

For me, it has been a time of great joy, interrupted briefly by great concern, replaced soon thereafter with great hope, and interlaced throughout with great fun. The little man in the picture on the above left is Oliver, or just Ollie for short. He is our super high-energy 2-year-old grandson who lives in Georgia. He has been our constant sidekick since baby brother Gavin was born.  As you already know, Gavin made a dramatic entrance into the world on Good Friday, April 10th. He’s been in the NICU unit in Athens since his birthday, all though you wouldn’t know it from the picture above, and he will be there another 5 or 6 days if all continues to go well. He is responding well to treatment and just started taking milk in the last day or two. Thank you for your prayers on his behalf!

Think forward with me for a moment to the day when life returns to normal and people start asking you; “So, what did you do on your summer vacation…” Well, it won’t be exactly like that, but you know what I mean. Everyone will want to know how you spent your time. Did you read any books, watch any movies, learn any new skills, take up any new instruments… In other words, were you productive, or did you just kick back and relax and enjoy the intermission?

Would you believe me if I told you that Jesus actually addressed something like this in our focal passage today? No, not the pandemic, but the intervening time between the old world and the new world. For us, that means post-COVID19. But for Jesus’ followers, it meant something very different. And most of them, if not all of them, we just as ill-prepared for the new world as we were ourselves just a few short weeks ago.

Luke has strategically and intentionally placed this story right before the triumphal entry into Jerusalem. You might not have expected Jesus to address this topic between Zacchaeus and Calvary, but He did, and He did so deliberately.
