Is This Heaven??? – From:Fido

by Lisa Coleman

The question on many Christian animal lover’s minds is ‘Will I see my pet again in heaven?’  When our beloved animals die, we are left with this fuzzy understanding about where they are.  Do they just cease to exist?  Can we expect or at least have great hope that we will see them again on the New Earth?

Anyone who has lost a furry companion knows how deeply we can grieve over their death.  Our pets have a special place in our hearts.  They don’t judge or discriminate.  I would add talk back, but my little Olive did talk back!  Oh, how much I miss her!

Just try googling whether animals go to heaven, and you will see 80,400,000 results (in 0.70 seconds).  This is a question many have.  Christians attempt to address it and within that group, even the different denominations have differing opinions.  Other religions also address this issue.  People from every walk of life treasure their pets and hope to be one day reunited with them.  It is a tender commonality we all share.  How very different yet how sweetly similar we all are!

Some truths to consider in anticipation of our discussion this Sunday:

  • Animals have the breath of life in them.
  • God saved eight people from the Flood, and he saved representatives of every animal species also.
  • God sent animals and birds as a helper suitable for Adam before he made a more suitable helper, the woman.
  • God instructed Adam to name only his wife and the animals, not the plants.
  • Eden was perfect, with animals. The New Earth is the new Eden.

Hmmm, what do you make of that?  I for one want to hear more.  Come join us as we learn more about pets in our Heaven series!
